Sonic Vilnius | sound walk at Naujoji Vilnia
Naujoji Vilnia
Meeting point: Vilnius Railway Station, ticket offices
We will walk with Marielle Vitureau
The soundwalk will be held in lithuanian
To the east from Vilnius, Naujoji Vilnia is nestled between forests, the railway and the river. This industrial side of Vilnius is full of history. Lithuanian residents were deported from Naujoji Vilnia station. During times of the Reform Movement of Lithuania, several politicians in this area tried to create a new republic, a pro-Soviet one. Today, the Polish language and trains are still part of the soundscape of Naujoji Vilnia. Yet new sounds also appear. New Vilnius is changing – people are building homes, new residents settle in. We will perceive these transformations during the soundwalk.
Marielle Vitureau is a radio journalist from France who has been working in Vilnius for 15 years. Marielle captures sounds of the city with her microphone and collects them into the online platform of her project “Kita stotelė – stotis”. She also coordinates the project “Radijo klausykla” with a group of like-minded people.
Marielle created a sound map of Vilnius:
