World Lithuanian Unity Day
Lithuanians living abroad are united every year on July 17th, celebrating World Lithuanian Unity Day. This date was selected because of this date the legendary pilots S. Darius and S. Girėnas have perished after crossing the Atlantic Ocean in 1933. This dramatic occasion strengthened the ties between Lithuanian expats and Lithuanians back home.
This project aims to connect Lithuanians scattered across the world, to provide opportunities for the Lithuanian diaspora to get more involved in life in Lithuania, to share their experiences and to feel needed back home. Meanwhile, Lithuanians living in Lithuania benefit from this project by getting informed by meaningful achievements of the expats, supporting the relationship.
